Daniel 3:17-18 KJV
If it be so , our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king.
[18] But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.
A friend told me yesterday that Nebuchadnezzar was a very unreasonable king, I couldn’t agree more. In what we read today, he commands all to worship his idol at a time he the king wants.
Interestingly, Daniel’s buddies were bold enough to stand him in his face to diaregard his foolish requests in some very good drama; a clear contradiction to the adage “When in Rome, do as the Romans do.”
A quick recap of the criteria used for recruiting Daniel and his colleagues states that those recruits should also be able to stand before kings (See 1:4). This therefore doesn’t make them rebels, it was actually expected of them!
I pray God gives you the spirit to stand before great men of our time and still make your case; and the wisdom to challenge the status quo without muddying the waters.
Have a blessed Friday.
