Jeremiah 42:15-16 KJV
And now therefore hear the word of the Lord , ye remnant of Judah; Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; If ye wholly set your faces to enter into Egypt, and go to sojourn there;
[16] Then it shall come to pass, that the sword, which ye feared, shall overtake you there in the land of Egypt, and the famine, whereof ye were afraid, shall follow close after you there in Egypt; and there ye shall die.
These were some very strong words from Jeremiah to the remnant of Jews who consulted Him to seek God’s face on their behalf. This particular scene happened just after the Babylonian Siege, when governor Gedaliah, who had been left to take care of the Jews left, was murdered.
Clearly, God was never in favour of a return to Egypt no matter how bad the situation in Israel was. He totally abhored the idea. I believe to Him, it meant the people were never truly emancipated.
All these years after exile in Egypt, God’s people had Egypt in mind for security. How unfortunate!!! God won’t promise a life of complete rossiness, but He wouldn’t expect you to go back to what He delivered you from. That is an absolute abomination!
We have been translated into His wonderful light and do find Grace in time of need. Let’s hold on to the faith we profess and never once think of a return to the darkness, no matter how tough things are.
Have a blessed day.
