Jeremiah 9:23-24 KJV
Thus saith the Lord , Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches:
[24] But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the Lord which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the Lord .
I have a friend who used the audio version of these verses for a ringtone. Anytime his phone rang, the words always hit me.
Reading it today reminds me again of what we read just a few days back in Jeremiah 5:4-5. Our definition of true riches must be tweaked a little, no matter what it is, given these words from Jeremiah.
There’s nothing absolutely wrong with physical wealth accumulation, or subjecting oneself to higher learning, or developing physical strengthen through rigorous exercises, but all these NEED to be seen as gifts from God to His subjects.
You are actually what and who you are because He allowed it. You can and will see even better progress if you choose to desist from glorying in your Progress and rather glory in your understanding and knowledge of Him.
Have a blessed day.
