Proverbs 29:15, 17 KJV
The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame.
[17] Correct thy son, and he shall give thee rest; yea, he shall give delight unto thy soul.
Times have changed a lot. When I was a little boy, the rod (cane) was one powerful tool for instilling discipline in my colleagues and I. Not one of us liked it wherever it was used, whether at home or in school.
One could just not escape, especially when you were such an energetic young boy full of life. You always ended up in one minor trouble or the other, and what you dreaded most was always there to keep you in check.
I don’t see this in schools and homes anymore. I can bet some young ones today have never set eyes on the cane, nor know its capabilities. Modernity has introduced several theories that preach against its use.
But to an extent these theories can be justified. The ultimate is for the child to be brought up well, and I’d prefer they are brought up well in the Lord. This is better than a cane because no amount of canes may enforce this!
Let’s give ourselves and our kids a better insurance in the Lord, so we can have GOOD REST (Pro 29:17).
Have a blessed Friday.
