He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.

Over the weekend I sat in a class that sought to give my friends and I, a little exposition on the beatitudes. I got to learn that the beatitudes also have Social Qualities and not just the Personal ones.

Humans are social beings and that’s why we need laws to guide us. In the wilderness, the Jews had the Law (Torah) to guide them. Laws were made for us.

I therefore find it a worrying trend to see many of us Christians break laws, simply because we probably didn’t see them written in scriptures. So whether I jump the red lights in traffic or cheat in an exams, I’m only indirectly asking God to turn a deaf ear to my prayers.

A Christian is not only a prayerful being, he’s also one who is socially responsible. So next time answers to your prayers seem to delay, you may also want to check how law-abiding you are becoming/unbecoming. 😉
