1 Chronicles 25:8 KJV
And they cast lots, ward against ward , as well the small as the great, the teacher as the scholar.
The last time I spoke to a gentleman about quitting gambling, because I thought it was impoverishing him, he replied, “Osofo, even people casted lots in the bible!!!”
Yes, lots were cast, and one could cite examples of Jonah when the waves were turbulent; or this very verse we are looking at today. But one needs to know that that system is different from present day “gambling or betting.”
Casting of lots was the sole prerogative of the priests and chief priests, and the practice was adopted as divine intervention in times of uncertainty or ensuring fairness. God abhorred it when it was abused or used for divination.
We could go on and on but the bottom line is very clear. Don’t justify betting and gambling by calling them casting lots. They may bear similarities but certainly not the same.
Have a blessed day.
