1 Samuel 22:18 KJV
And the king said to Doeg, Turn thou, and fall upon the priests. And Doeg the Edomite turned, and he fell upon the priests, and slew on that day fourscore and five persons that did wear a linen ephod.
So Saul murdered all the 85 priests plus women, children, infants, sheep and goats in the city of Nob, just because he got intel that David had been there and they had conspired with David.
The same Saul spared sheep and goats when he was asked to utterly destroy Amalek and their king, Agag….motives come in here again.
One man by name Doeg, was however my focus this morning. Doeg had been detained at Nob when David was there.
In order to win back favour with the king and get restored, Doeg orchestrated all this and gave out information. Even when none could slaw the priests, he single-handedly did.
Jesus said we need to be careful of the yeast of the pharisees. Hypocrisy, as well as winning cheap favour and popularity are not things Christians should pride themselves in.
Favour before men is NO favour, and going lengths to win favour in man’s sight at the expense or to the detriment of another man is very evil.
Jesus would have none of that.
Let’s be careful how we get to the top.
Have a blessed day
