TOLERATING PRESSURE – Thu, Oct 09, 2014

1 Samuel 13:12-13 KJV
Therefore said I, The Philistines will come down now upon me to Gilgal, and I have not made supplication unto the Lord : I forced myself therefore, and offered a burnt offering.

[13] And Samuel said to Saul, Thou hast done foolishly: thou hast not kept the commandment of the Lord thy God, which he commanded thee: for now would the Lord have established thy kingdom upon Israel for ever.

I can understand the amount of pressure that was on Saul to make this rash decision of offering the burnt offering, though he was no priest.

Saul had been king for only two years. Israel was under siege and they had waited for Samuel to come make the peace and burnt offering as part of their military strategy, but he was 1week late. Meanwhile all Saul’s men had scattered and hidden themselves in caves and pits. In such a situation what would you do?

When I read this for the first time I thought Saul had not been fairly treated…but… God’s statutes cannot be compromised under any circumstance.
Note that Samuel appeared AS SOON AS Saul had finished offering the sacrifice.

Abraham also found himself in such a situation.
Do you compromise on God’s standards especially when under intense pressure?
How do u react when your pressure gauge is reading ‘max’?

Have a blessed day.
