Judges 8:22-23 KJV
Then the men of Israel said unto Gideon, Rule thou over us, both thou, and thy son, and thy son’s son also: for thou hast delivered us from the hand of Midian.
[23] And Gideon said unto them, I will not rule over you, neither shall my son rule over you: the Lord shall rule over you.
The men of Israel were so excited about their victory that they exposed their innermost thoughts and desires. They wanted a King just like the other nations and they found Gideon the most appropriate person.
Harmless as the offer may have seemed, Gideon was able to make a very very wise decision in the midst of all the excitement. Surely he must have listened to God’s beckoning at that time because the offer was too tempting and irresistible.
Some great men of old reached an anti-climax just when they were supposed to shine the most simply because they took wrong counsel in the midst of their triumph and all the excitement and merry.
It is easiest to fall at the zenith of your accomplishments.
It is easiest to forget about God when all is well and smooth.
It is easiest to lose all at the point when one gains it all.
Beware of the counsel of those who share in your joy and excitement, it could cost you an awful lot.
Have a blessed day.
