And the children of Israel gave unto the Levites out of their inheritance, at the commandment of the Lord , these cities and their suburbs.

Finally, the Levites get their share of the Land just like every other tribe. But we all know that these are land that had already been given to other tribes.

So as it were, all the other tribes made a little provision for the Levites. They gave back a portion of their lands to the levites (who essentially had no possessions).
I’m sure by so doing God was able to get them evenly distributed among the people to facilitate worship.

The role these Levites played was very very crucial in the lives of the people and yet they didn’t own anything of their own, living off other people most of the time, an act Jesus perpetuated in His time.

Jesus made a profound statement in Luke 12:15 that I like so much; “…A man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of things which he possesseth.”
Too much attachment to matetial possessions automatically waters down our affinity for God.
Letz desire to be the Levites of our generation.
