GAME PLAN OR COWARDICE? – Thu, May 07, 2020

John 11:53-54 KJV

Then from that day forth they took counsel together for to put him to death.

[54] Jesus therefore walked no more openly among the Jews; but went thence unto a country near to the wilderness, into a city called Ephraim, and there continued with his disciples.

I had heard a lot about the Inter-Schools Competition even before I got into high school, and I remember clearly how I had anticipated it. Just before the very first one, our Headmaster by then, Mr. J. J. Asare, met all of us in the Assembly Hall and gave some pieces of advice.

What I remember most of all the nuggets he shared is that, “being in your corner peacefully and not engaging in a fight, even when you are provoked, is not a sign of weakness or cowardice.”

A good number of times Jesus avoided the tensed crowds and a charged political atmosphere, not because he was afraid. Of course, no power was/is greater, but you do realise how counter productive such an approach would have been, in the face of the kind of messages He preached. He avoided them so He could remain focused on His mission; liberation from death and spiritual bondage, not from a political one.

Keep your focus, even when the steps you take seem cowardly or foolish. The end is what actually justifies the means. That’s what people will remember you for.

Have a blessed day.
