OBEY HIS VOICE – Wed, Aug 21, 2019

Jeremiah 7:22-23 KJV

For I spake not unto your fathers, nor commanded them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices:

[23] But this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you.

I’m reminded of the story of Jesus driving out worshippers, who were trading in the temple, and claiming they had turned the temple into a den of thieves.

In that story, Jesus was appalled by the fact that the temple had been reduced to just a place where sacrifices were burnt and offerings were received, nothing more!
The very basics were lost. Obedience to the Lord and love of fellow man were a far cry from the practise of their faith. Much had been lost to religiosity.

This actually happened in Jeremiah’s time, many many years before Jesus’s episode. I fear same could be happening in our time. Obedience to His Voice has been substituted with offerings and sacrifices in our own way. We are only perpetrating what was started thousands of years ago and the end of such actions is only one (v15, 16).

May the Lord of Host kindle in our hearts, a desire to obey Him. I pray for an obedient heart, a heart that may truly attract the attention of the Lord and inherit the favours that come with it.

Have a blessed day.
