GENEROSITY ENCOURAGED – Fri, Jul 24, 2020

2 Corinthians 8:3-4 TMB

I was there and saw it for myself. They gave offerings of whatever they could – far more than they could afford!

[4] Pleading for the privilege of helping out in the relief of poor Christians.

When I heard how a church had doled out in excess of $250k during the lockdown to its members, just a couple of months ago, as COVID-19 relief, I was very excited for the members. I saw on video the parish priest state his reasons for their actions and I thought that was commendable.

The crisis had taken a lot of folks by surprise and the resulting lockdown didn’t make matters any better. To people who were already struggling to make ends meet, those must have been really trying times.

I couldn’t but help myself read the Message Bible version of these verses, just to give it a more contemporary sense of the level of generosity Apostle Paul saw in Macedonia.
The church was under so much pressure and yet they gave out their hearts, in fact, more than they could afford, just so the relief items could be sent to those who needed.

When our love for the body of Christ matures, generosity becomes totally spontaneous and it explains why we give unreservedly to God.
Don’t hold back, keep giving for His sake!

Have a blessed Friday.
