Jeremiah 38:24 ESV
Then Zedekiah said to Jeremiah, “Let no one know of these words, and you shall not die.”

Indeed Jeremiah was a prophet, but with death staring at him in the face would you expect him to consider a small window of opportunity to escape presented to him by the king, OR embrace death instead?

Certainly not. I’d have done same if I was Jeremiah… and note that God didn’t judge him for wrongdoing!
I believe no matter who you are, when the situation demands it, you may have to bend the rule in a positive way, so you make progress.

This should neither be misconstrued for ‘double standards’ nor critiqued as cowardice. We read that at a point in his ascent to the throne, David did same yet God didn’t hold it against him.

Jeremiah did the king’s bidding and he lived. Paul ‘played his cards well’ with his citizenship when it mattered. Christianity is not foolishness. Be wise, live and progress.
