DAY OF ATONEMENT (YOM KIPPUR) – Tue, Nov 14, 2017

Leviticus 16:34 KJV

And this shall be an everlasting statute unto you, to make an atonement for the children of Israel for all their sins once a year. And he did as the Lord commanded Moses.

Once every year, as you would treat your birthday, the Jews had a very special day in their calendar. They called it the Day of Atonement. What happened on this day was very different from any other.

Going into the Most Holy Place everyday was getting a bit risky, and Aaron could just get himself killed by one little error. (v1 &2). So in place of this, God introduced the one-time premium, which we learnt about some weeks ago.

The scapegoat that is released on this day of atonement, as it were, carried the sins of all the people away from the camp of Israel, and made them clean. This annual ritual, formed a very significant part of their worship, and was integral to their Purification rites as a whole community.

For you, Christ has become that scapegoat, so that you wouldn’t need a particular day in the year for ALL your sins to be taken away. You’ve got to be wise and open your eyes to see this. The privileges you have now leaves with no excuses when you meet the Son the Man.

Have a blessed day.
